Content management is a fundamental requirement of any website. If all you need to do is modify the text or layout of a page, then you can use our generic Microsoft Word-based approach. All you need is Word and there is no learning curve! On the other hand, for a business site you may wish to do much more.
A formal Data/Content Management System (CMS) gives the system administrator (business owner) some control over the site. For example, you may wish to edit your customer database, alter prices, add more products, change product descriptions, or review current orders. You can do this through a formal CMS which appears as special passcode-accessed pages on your site.

We can deliver a custom-built CMS comprising one or more pages, and we expect to go round the design loop a number of times before you are happy.
You get encrypted password access and secure (https) pages so that only you can change sensitive data. Usually you will be changing databases but this process is transparent to you. A CMS may actually be split into separate access areas, one for the site owner, and others to enable third-parties to do their own updates.
The screenshot opposite shows our Administrator CMS interface for a photographic website. The site is covered by a security certificate so the CMS can make secure data transfers. Besides viewing image galleries, the photographic database can be viewed to show full details of each image. The CMS also has separate photographer and laboratory pages (not shown).
Editing: Products are in categories and the text description, price, or thumbnail image of each product can be changed. You can edit the personal details of third-party users (photographers in this case), such as their password, postal address, and PayPal account. You can also clear redundant information or files from the database to avoid filling your server space. Summarising the basic features of this CMS:
